Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography — A highly specialized procedure for both diagnosis and treatment of bile duct and pancreatic duct disorders.

Upper GI Endoscopy Equipment

What is ERCP?

ERCP is a highly specialized endoscopic procedure used for both the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the bile ducts and pancreatic ducts. During the procedure, a flexible endoscope is gently passed through the mouth into the duodenum. A contrast dye is then injected into the bile and pancreatic ducts under X-ray guidance.

Direct visualization of bile and pancreatic ducts
X-ray guided imaging for precise diagnosis
Combined diagnosis and treatment in one session
    Minimally invasive alternative to surgery
    Immediate therapeutic intervention capability

Conditions Commonly Treated

ERCP plays a vital role in managing conditions that cause blockage, infection, stones, or narrowing of the bile and pancreatic ducts. It is recommended for patients presenting with various biliary and pancreatic disorders.

    Obstructive jaundice and cholangitis
    Bile duct stones (choledocholithiasis)
    Biliary and pancreatic duct strictures
    Pancreatic duct stones or leaks
    Tumors causing bile duct obstruction
Medical professional viewing high-definition endoscopic imagery on monitor
Modern colonoscopy medical room with advanced equipment

Therapeutic Benefits

One of the major advantages of ERCP is that diagnosis and treatment can be done together, avoiding the need for multiple procedures. Our unit specializes in therapeutic ERCP, allowing immediate and effective intervention.

    Removal of bile duct stones
Placement of biliary or pancreatic stents
    Dilatation of narrowed ducts
Control and sealing of bile leaks
Tissue sampling through biopsy or brush cytology
